In Year 6, we have been writing explanation texts about the heart and heart transplants. We looked at lots of different explanations before we started writing to see what makes an effective explanation.
What do you think makes a good explanation?
What advice would you give someone about to write an explanation text?
We will be posting some of our best work here shortly…stay posted!
it is really easy and fun,
I especially liked drawing the diagram of my subject I would like to do it again
A good explanation is when you have pictures, questions and emotive language. Do capital letters , full stops and commas and also to take your time and not rush and to get a lot down as possible. Also make sure what your writing makes sense!
sub heading, pictures, connectives, questions, title, bullet pints and a glossary.
A good explanation text need: a title, subheadings (to organise paragraphs), good facts and overall information, questions (optional, to interest the reader), pictures/diagrams(captions are optional), a glossary(to understand the tricky words) and last but not least (optional) bullet points. It needs to make sense as well and be clear for the reader to understand!
What makes a good explanation subheading, title, time connectives, facts and information, questions, pictures, glossary.
I think facts, information and question (to interest the reader) make a good explanation text.
Lots of information, sub headings and pictures
An explanation text is to write information that the reader doesn’t know.
A good explanation text needs facts and information questions title subheading pictures glossary and bullet points
To make a good explanation text, you need a good, subheading and title. When you have all of that you will need information and facts.
For a good explanation text you put information, a sub-heading, title, introduction and good word choices.
I like it because it is really fun and I get to use new vocabulary and connectives.
Hello Year 6!
Great work on what makes a good explanation! As well as drawings, what about drawings with labels that identify different parts of the drawing?
